Medical Transportation Supports (MeTS)

Medical Transportation Supports (MeTS)

The Province of Newfoundland and Labrador through the Department of Labrador Affairs, administers two programs that offer support to people who must travel for medical reasons.

Medical Transportation Supports (METS) is a needs-based and income-tested program that provides supports such as travel arrangements, funding, and per diems to individuals who meet the requirements established by the Department of Labrador Affairs. The program guidelines can be accessed at https://www.gov.nl.ca/la/medical-transportation-assistance-program-mtap/medical-transportation-benefits-for-income-support-clients/.

The Medical Transportation Assistance Program (MTAP) partially covers the cost of travel expenses for individuals within the province, and out-of-province, for services that are not available in their region.

People who qualify for assistance under MTAP can receive 100% of the first $1,000 of approved travel: 75% of $1,000 to $8,000; and 85% for travel greater than $8,000.

Full program details are online at https://www.gov.nl.ca/la/files/25079-MTAP-Fact-Sheet-July-28.pdf
